Big Problems? Bigger God

Caleb quieted the people before Moses and said, “Let us go up at once and occupy it, for we are well able to overcome it.” Numbers 13:30

Upon the Lord’s instruction, Moses called 12 men, a chief from each tribe, to spy out the land of Canaan. Their wilderness journey was coming to an end and they were on the periphery of God’s promise. For 40 days they gathered information on the land, the produce, the cities and the people. The Israelites waited with anticipation for the men to return with the report; their hope, as it were, lay in their hands. Unfortunately, 10 men would shatter the dreams of a nation and the hopes of an entire generation – “We can’t do it!” they said, “their number is great, their strength is great; we will be crushed.” As Dr. David Jeremiah puts it, ‘their eyes were so filled with the size of their problems that they couldn’t see the size of their God.’

How true that is with us at times. When problems overwhelm us, we can lose sight of who it is that fights for us; who it is that upholds us with His strength. Caleb and Joshua saw the same situation as the other ten spies but their faith told them that they were well able to overcome it.

For we walk by faith, not by sight. 2 Corinthians 5:7

The Israelites walked by sight, and in doing so, a whole generation lost the blessing of their inheritance. Don’t let the size of a problem become an obstacle to obtaining the promises and blessing of God. Trust the God of the impossible. Walk toward the challenge in faith, and the Lord will walk you through it.

When you come across big problems, remember, you have a bigger God.
