Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places. Ephesians 1:3
God has poured out his blessing on all mankind and his grace and mercy are available to anyone who wishes to accept it. In this verse, though, Paul speaks of spiritual blessings that can only be received by those who have accepted God’s salvation. These blessings, here and now, help us to walk this earthly path with endurance in our heart and peace in our soul. We are also assured of the heavenly blessings yet to come as heirs with Christ.
God’s blessings cannot be numbered and he gives them to us out of love, pouring out his goodness upon us. What then can we give God and how can we bless him in return? In the Hebrew, the word translated as bless is ‘barak’ and literally means to kneel. We bless God by kneeling before him with reverent adoration and praise for all that he has given and all that he has done. As the psalmist proclaimed:
“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name!” Psalm 103:1
God blesses us with his goodness, and we, in return, bless God for his goodness which is constant and abundant.
