Be a Doer

A slack hand causes poverty, but the hand of the diligent makes rich. Proverbs 10:4

The bible points out the dangers involved when we make a lifestyle out of idleness and laziness. The apostle Paul was a great advocate of working with your hands so that you may walk properly before outsiders and be dependent on no one (1Thes4). Paul never wanted to be a burden to others which is why, even on his missionary journeys, he continued to work as a tent maker. When we do honest work with our own hands, we have something to share with those who are in need (Eph 4:28).

The deeper message in this is to be a labourer in the Kingdom of God because the harvest is plentiful (Matt 9:37). As individuals and as the Church, we are not to be slack but to be diligent in the work of the Lord. When we sit back and do nothing, we become spiritually poor; when we get up and do something, we find that ‘the blessing of the Lord makes rich, and he adds no sorrow with it’ (Prov10:22).

Explore the richness of your faith by being a doer in the kingdom of God, and if you are in any doubt about what you should be doing – just ask Him.
