For he spoke and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm. Psalm 33:9
In Genesis 18, God asked the question – “Is anything too hard for the LORD?” Abraham wanted to believe, but Sarah was sceptical. When Job was faced with this question, he replied, “I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted.” When Jeremiah contemplated this, he exclaimed:
“Ah Lord God, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for you. O great and mighty God, whose name is the LORD of hosts, great in counsel and mighty in deed, whose eyes are open to all the ways of the children of man.” 32:17-19
Fast forward into the New Testament and in Luke chapter 1 we find two very different women. One is older in years and without children, not unlike Sarah, and the other is a young virgin engaged to be married. Both of these women experienced a miraculous event. How did these two wonderful births happen? ‘For he spoke and it came to be’, or as the angel said, ‘Nothing will be impossible with God’ (v37).
The ASV translates verse 37 as – For no word of God shall be void of power. God speaks and things happen, just look at Genesis chapter 1! Verse after verse we read, ‘And God said… and it was so.’
Throughout scripture we see the power of God at work in the lives of people just like you and me. So, whatever challenges come your way today, remember, you walk with the One through whom ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE!
