“For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which none of your adversaries will be able to withstand or contradict.” Luke 21:15
Have you ever been tongue-tied or found yourself with mind-freeze, when everything goes blank? You are standing there in front of someone, or worst still, a group or crowd, and your brain gives you nothing. Later on, of course, your mind goes into overdrive with umpteen different brilliant responses, but a lot of good that is once the moment has passed.
In Luke 21 Jesus is preparing all his followers for what lies ahead. He foretells of the destruction of the Temple and of wars and persecution in the days to come. He also warned that some followers would face oppression, affliction and imprisonment. We have seen all of this during our time and there will be more to come. As much as we want to question why, we cannot change what will be.
Jesus does not sugar-coat the Christian life, for there will definitely be troubles, but we are not to be afraid if we have to answer for following Jesus. He has promised, “I will give you a mouth and wisdom…” The comforting truth is that He gives us wisdom for every situation. No matter how difficult the circumstances are, the promises of God are steadfast. He is our way through the chaos and our light in the darkest of times.
Allow the Holy Spirit the freedom to work in your life, to guide you into those promises and to increase your faith to speak His Words.
