Choices, Faith worked out

Don’t Give It All Up

“Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.” Matthew 25:34

This is indeed the ultimate blessing – to have, as an inheritance, the kingdom of our God, shared in equal measure with all the sons and daughters of the King. While lots of people have stopped certain things for lent, God never stops blessing his own.

We are afforded this blessing because of love, kindness and compassion; the love we have given, the kindness we have offered and the compassion we have shown to our brothers and sisters in Christ. We are a family and we are to treat each other with care, dignity and respect. The level of consideration we show to others is the level we are showing to Christ.

“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me… Truly I say to you, as you did this to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.”

The inheritance that God gives his children, he has been preparing from the foundation of the world. Don’t you find that incredible? He knew what he wanted to give to you from the very beginning of time and he does it with joy. Jesus tells us, “It is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom” (Luke12:32). As heirs with Christ, every blessing we have comes through him. The Father looks on us as he looks on the Son and grants us an unrestrained bounty of favour.

Whatever you are giving up this lent, make sure it is not love, kindness or compassion.
