Praise, Thanksgiving

I Own Nothing

Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all. 1 Chronicles 29:11

This is a prayer of David before the whole assembly at the time when his reign was ending and Solomon’s was about to begin. David acknowledged that although he appeared rich in gold, silver, bronze, iron, precious stones, marble and wood, nothing actually belonged to him; everything that he had belonged to God, for everything he had was given by God.

When I look around my home at all the things I believe to be mine, and think about how they were made, I am amazed at some of the underlying natural components. From the plants, the animals and the foundations of our earth that God created, he gave us everything that would be required to produce all that we would ever need.

From clothing to furniture, utensils to medicine and everything in between, Jehovah Jireh provided every raw material. By His greatness and power, we want for nothing. Cotton plants, silk worms and woolly sheep allow us, and our homes, to be clothed in beautiful fabric. Mahogany, pine, oak and cedar are used for carving, building and sculpting whatever we desire. Within His majestic mountains he has hidden the most beautiful gems and precious stones. Every plant of the field provides the essential nourishment that we need, and, most importantly, the rains of heaven provide the life blood of everything upon the earth.

With thankfulness and awe, praise God for all that you have, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is His, and you are the recipient of his extraordinary goodness.
