Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the Lord’s work, because you know that your labour in the Lord is not in vain. 1 Corinthians 15:58
The start of a new year is a good time to reassess the direction you are going and the things you are trying to achieve. You may be currently involved in, or embarking on for the first time, something that you feel the Lord directed you to. You might even be asking yourself, what exactly does ‘the Lord’s work’ look like in my life?
The Lord’s work takes on many different forms: It is caring for the poor, the needy, the widow and the orphan; it is feeding the hungry, giving water to the thirsty, welcoming the stranger, visiting the sick and ministering to those in prison (or anyone who is imprisoned by anything). It is a boy giving up his lunch to feed others; it’s a man helping someone badly beaten without any thought of religious affiliation; it is four friends carrying another to get help. The Lord’s work is all about love.
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbour as yourself.” Matthew 22:37-39
Finding the Lord’s work is easier than you might think. You will find your direction when you listen to His. Once there, be steadfast and committed in all that you do, for when you do it in love, it will never be in vain.
