Faith worked out, Grace, Kindness

Be Nice

Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. Ephesians 4:29

Think of all the conversations that you have had so far this week. Did you come away with a smile on your face or with a headache; are there some that you can’t even remember? If this happens to you, it can also happen to the people you were chatting with. Each person you meet will leave your company in one of three ways: Better off; worse off; unaffected.

The ability to make someone feel good, feel positive or feel better, is a wonderful trait to have. Everyone needs a little building up from time to time. You will know of times when you yourself felt a bit low, questioned a decision, or doubted your own efforts. How good did it feel to talk with someone who boosted your confidence or lifted your spirits?

We can build people up in various ways. For example, helping them believe in their own potential, showing appreciation for something they achieved, encouraging them in a new role, or simply paying them a compliment. We hear too much negativity all around us from those intent in tearing others down and highlighting their weaknesses. We all have weaknesses and we don’t need to be reminded of them, so let’s build up each other’s strengths.

For the rest of today, look for the opportunity to say something positive to those you talk to, and spread a little bit of God’s grace into someone else’s life.
