God's Power, Holy Spirit, Promises

Dressed for Success

And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.” Luke 24:49

There is a plan in place and there is work to be done but we are not expected, or indeed encouraged, to do God’s work in our own strength. The Father himself will clothe us with power, enabling us to carry out the work of the kingdom. A plumber doesn’t go out to fix a leak with a roll of Sellotape; he goes with the right tools for the job. God equips us with exactly what we need so that we can serve him with confidence.

Every Christian should be in no doubt about the power of the Spirit within them. This is not something that might, maybe, possibly happen to a select few or only the Pentecostals. This is a promise of the Son, from the Father, to every believer and follower of Christ – ‘I am sending the promise of my Father.’

This is the Trinity in motion for the work of the Kingdom: The Father began the plan, the Son became the plan, and the Holy Spirit continues the plan through each one of us. You have power within you; power from on high.

Regardless of how we feel in ourselves, God does not send us out in weakness; he sends us out in strength. The power of the Spirit stirs up courage, grants us deeper access to the things of God and increases knowledge so that we can spread the good news with boldness and face the enemy without fear. To be clothed with power is to be dressed for success as we labour in the Father’s vineyard.

Believe in the promise of the Father. Believe in the power of the Spirit.
