A bruised reed he will not break, and a faintly burning wick he will not quench; he will faithfully bring forth justice. Isaiah 42:3
We all have battles that we must face and very rarely do we come out unscathed, even from the ones we win. Fighting the good fight can leave us feeling drained, weak and very bruised. Even the strongest among us can feel beaten down by ongoing struggles. Maybe the weight of what you bear causes you to feel like you might just break. Maybe current circumstances have caused the light within you to be reduced to a faint glow.
The first truth that the Christian can hold onto is this: Our God is not only aware of our pain, but he also feels our pain, for he was bruised for us. A second truth is that we are never beyond His healing, for there is no reed so damaged that He cannot repair and there is no flame so faint that He cannot reignite.
The final truth of this verse is that God is always in the fight with us and he will ensure that at the end of it all, our victory lies in his justice. No battle goes unseen and by the strength of his hand, he will execute judgement on behalf of his own.
“Behold, at that time I will deal with all your oppressors.” Zephaniah 3:19
Through God’s tenderness there is restoration; through God’s strength there is justice.
