Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generation. Noah walked with God. Genesis 6:9
We always tend to quote, ‘Enoch walked with God’ and yet the bible notes the same truth about his great-grandson, Noah; a man who had a tremendous, unequivocal faith.
The people of the earth were found to be continually evil,
‘and the Lord was sorry that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart… but Noah found favour in the eyes of the Lord… and God said to Noah, make yourself an ark… Noah did this; he did all that God commanded him.’
So, five years after the death of his father and in the year that his grandfather, Methuselah, died, Noah was the only one found blameless in his generation. Noah walked in the will of God and lived according to the word of the Lord. God spoke to Noah and told him that judgement was coming. Although Noah could not see the evidence of it as yet, he believed God’s word to be true and followed all that the Lord told him.
When the ark was completed and all the animals were safely on board, Noah and his family went inside, ‘and the Lord shut him in.’ Everything within the ark was now safe in the refuge of God; their lives were now securely sealed within His promise.
When we walk with God and commit ourselves to fully trust in His word, we are able to survive the rising waters because we are shut-in with Him, under His protection.
Just as Noah’s faith in God was worked out through his faithfulness to God, so too must our faith be worked out through total commitment to the will of the Father.
