Daily Life, Faith worked out

Manners Matter

(Remember) to speak evil of no-one, to avoid quarrelling, to be gentle, and to show perfect courtesy toward all people.

Titus 3:2

The working out of our faith is not only evident to ourselves, but to all those we come into contact with. We interact with hundreds of people on a yearly basis and our faith is seen through every action and every word. We may not say anything particularly slanderous, or indeed evil, but we can easily make disparaging remarks without too much thought.

Perfect courtesy cannot be shown through unkind comments and it is certainly not shown through quarrelling. There is nothing wrong with expressing a different opinion, as long as we avoid it descending into a bitter disagreement.

Gentleness is a fruit of the Spirit and is in opposition to speaking evil and quarrelling. This is a perfect example of why we should never ‘quench the Spirit’. Sometimes I wonder if we truly appreciate the extent to which the Spirit of God helps us in our daily lives, and in every conversation that we have.

We will never be in agreement with everyone we meet but we can be courteous to all who cross our path.
