God's Love, Mercy, Tuesday Truths

Nothing I Can Do

He saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit.

Titus 3:5

I am so glad and extremely grateful that my salvation is in no way based on my own achievements. Contrary to belief, there is no ‘good-living’ access point into heaven. We are saved only by his own mercy.

No matter how hard you try, you can never wash yourself clean by doing good works. Life is not a competition to see who deserves the medals and a place on the podium of heaven. If the scales of justice were to weigh all of our good against all of the bad, there would be no-one found to be deserving of God’s salvation.

Mercy was the only way that we could ever be saved and God did not hesitate in offering it to each and every one of us. He knew that, of ourselves, righteousness would be impossible to achieve, so he took human ability out of the equation, completely.

“The blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.” 1 John 1:7

Through repentance we are washed clean and our spirit is regenerated. That which had been eaten away and destroyed by sin has now been restored and renewed to its perfect condition, by the Spirit of God.

Through the righteousness of Christ, we receive the mercy of God.
