Let us test and examine our ways, and return to the LORD!Lamentations 3:40
Walking in the will and plans of God is something that every Christian strives to do and we often spend a lot of time trying to figure out what that ‘will’ is. Through his word, God has told us, “I know the plans I have for you”, and through those plans we have a future and a hope. Now and again we inadvertently take our future into our own hands. We get distracted with a seemingly good idea or notion and it causes us to veer off our intended path.
“Yet even now,” declares the LORD, “return to me with all your heart.” Joel 2:12
From time to time we need to take stock of where we are and re-evaluate the path we are following. After a car’s fourth birthday it gets an annual check-up; thinking everything is fine is no guarantee that it is. Getting the MOT test can result in two possible outcomes: 1, something needs fixed or tweaked; 2, the car is indeed fine and still fit for the road. The first outcome allows you to make the required fixes and the second outcome gives you peace of mind for another period of time.
By testing and examining our ways on a regular basis we afford ourselves the clarity that we are still on the road God wants us to be. On the off-chance that we are not, we have the opportunity to make the necessary adjustments and return to the way of the Lord.
Knowing that we are walking in the plans of God gives us a real sense of peace, for we find true contentment and strength in his will.
