Daniel 7:15,16 – As for me, Daniel, my spirit within me was anxious, and the visions of my head alarmed me. I approached one of those who stood there and asked him the truth concerning all this. So he told me and made known to me the interpretation of the things.
Daniel was greatly distressed by what he had seen in the vision. The images swirled in his head and even though he had seen the glory of the final battle, he was still disturbed by wars here and now. In verse 19 Daniel says, “Then I desired to know the truth about the fourth beast…” Even though he knew that he wouldn’t be around during the time of the fourth kingdom, Daniel still wanted to understand it.
Daniel had such a thirst for knowledge and he pursued it continually, for there is no point in hearing, reading or seeing God’s word without the ability to understand it. Clarity comes through understanding and understanding comes through truth.
I am sure all of us have experienced a situation whereby either we ourselves or a loved has not been feeling well but the cause is unknown. The need to understand takes us to the doctor who pokes and prods and does some tests. We walk about with a cloud over us during the time of not-knowing which can sometimes be short but other times, very long. Not-knowing causes fear and fear can keep us rooted in the same spot. When the answer comes and we know the truth of the situation, the weight begins to lift, even when the truth is a little scary because truth brings an opportunity to move forward; truth free us from the unknown.
Daniel’s words really stood out for me – I desired to know the truth – because when we seek the truth of God’s word, we ultimately find freedom. Understanding scripture can be hard, I know that, but it is worth the time and effort of trying.
The one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing. (Jam1:25)
When you study God’s word, persevere in finding the truth, apply that truth to your life and then act upon it, the Lord will bless those actions. Desire to know God’s truth and then use that truth in service to one another.
