This Name of God is only mentioned 3 times in the bible and they all occur within Daniel chapter 7. The name mirrors El Olam as it depicts the everlasting nature of God; Alpha and Omega, without beginning and without end – literally before the formation of days and before time itself.
Referring to his vision, Daniel writes, “As I looked, thrones were placed, and the Ancient of Days took his seat; his clothing was white as snow, and the hair of his head like pure wool; his throne was fiery flames; A thousand thousands served him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him; the court sat in judgment, and the books were opened.” Through this passage we see the reality of Jehovah Hasopet – The Lord the Judge.
In verse 13 Daniel records, “and behold, with the clouds of heaven there came one like a son of man, and he came to the Ancient of Days and presented before him. And to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all should serve him; an everlasting dominion which shall not pass away”. Everything on this earth will eventually fade away. Trees and plants will wither and mortal bodies return to the dust from which they were made – all have been given an allotted time.
A new heaven and a new earth are coming and time will no longer have relevance; nothing will ever fade, wither or die. A new and wondrous eternal existence in the presence of the Almighty awaits the redeemed. We too shall be presented before the Ancient of Days and Daniel reveals that ‘judgment was given for the saints of the Most High, and the time came when the saints possessed the kingdom’. What glorious confirmation that we are indeed heirs with Christ, to inherit the kingdom of our God.
2020 may have been an extremely difficult year but try not to look back with sadness or despair, instead, hold on to every promise of God. Keep looking forward and keep looking up. Focus your attention on the Name that is above every Name, He is your steadfast hope through all your days; He is Immanuel and He is with you every step of the way.
