Name of God

JEHOVAH JIREH

So Abraham called the name of that place, “Jehovah Jireh”; as it is said to this day, “On the mount of the LORD it shall be provided.”

God’s provision is boundless, not only for mankind but for every creature that He made. In Genesis 1 we read, ‘And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food. And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so’.

When the Israelites wandered the desert and plants and trees were probably scarce, the Lord provided manna each morning, quail for meat and gave them water from a rock. When God told Elijah to hide by the brook Cherith, He provided him with bread and meat in the morning and in the evening, which was all brought to him by ravens! How incredible!

Paul reminds us not to set our hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy (1Tim6).

God provision for us is threefold:

Body – Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them… Therefore, do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ Your heavenly Father know that you need them all. (Matt6)

Mind – God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. (1Cor10)

Spirit – For in this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. (2Pet1)

Give thanks today for all that the Lord has provided in your life, giving praise for His goodness which never fails.
