Ambassadors

Colossians 3:17

And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

We all like to present ourselves well, especially if we are going for an interview for a new job or position. Appearance can be crucial and it is often said to ‘dress for the job you want, not the job you have’. Other important factors are punctuality, enthusiasm and a can-do attitude. These things give the viewer a positive feeling.

Once you get in the door you are no longer a solo act but a team player. Now, you are not only answerable to yourself but to those in authority above you and your behaviour outside of work can also reflect on the company or organisation you work for. The seriousness of this depends on the industry you are connected with. Professional sportsmen/women can bring disrepute to their team through careless actions in their private life and a prince can bring embarrassment to the Crown.

Christians represent a higher authority at all times, in public and in private. Regardless of whether you are a billboard Christian or a bumper-sticker Christian, your actions and behaviour reflect on the name of the Lord Jesus. Our commission is to draw people to Jesus, not drive them further away; we are ambassadors for Christ and have been entrusted with the message of reconciliation (2Cor5). Present Him well and leave the viewer with a positive feeling.
