For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
The apostle Paul uses the term ‘walk’ quite a lot in his writing; walk in faith, walk in the Spirit, walk in love, walk as children of light, walk in newness of life. And when he wasn’t walking, he was running! The image we have is a daily Christian life that is in perpetual motion. God has prepared a work for us to do – He created us for good works. Our commitment to Him is to walk in them continually and not be stagnant. We are to be an active people for an active God.
There is a vast selection of works to be done for the Kingdom and it is not left to you to do all of them. This is a family affair, a team event. There will be times when we work alone on a specific task – you’ll know what it is because the Lord will lay it upon your heart. There will also be times when we are called to work alongside others. Listen to your spirit and follow your heart. God has given you gifts and talents to be used in His service so don’t let them go to waste.
The Lord Jesus became a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people (Heb2:17). We now must fulfil our calling in the service of God, to walk in the good works that He has prepared for us to do.
