What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound?
What a question. Unfortunately, over the years I have heard people say that you don’t have to worry about what you do because God has already forgiven you, (mainly not Christian people, thankfully). I have wondered why they think that. Is it simply a lack of understanding or is that what they have seen portrayed in Christians that they know?
God may no longer count our transgressions against us but to continue to flirt with sinful ways makes a mockery of the Lord’s death, our salvation and God’s grace. The penalty of our sin has been paid and the power of sin has been destroyed. Our lives are now in Christ and as such we should no longer have the desire to sin. We are new creations; the old has passed away and the new has come (2Cor5).
Paul himself asked in verse 2, “How can we who died to sin still live in it?”. We have been set free from the burden of it so why would we want to indulge in it? We have a freedom in Christ that transcends our old nature and catapults us into a new dimension of living.
Embrace the freedom, live in the new, leave the old behind and praise God for His abundance of grace.
