Called to Serve

Romans 1:1

Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God.

If you know and love the Lord and have accepted Him as your Saviour, then take out Paul’s name and insert your own.

A servant of Christ Jesus… in some translations the word is bond-servant, i.e. bound to God in service. It comes from the Greek work dôulôs: a permanent relation of servitude to another; completely subject to the will of another. That is what it means for us to be servants of God. We give ourselves over completely and utterly to His will… Thy will be done.

Called to be an apostle… There were 13 apostles – twelve disciples (with Matthias replacing Judas) and Paul. We may not be apostles in the truest meaning but as Christians we have all been called. Called to witness, called to share the word of God, called to show God’s love.

Set apart for the gospel of God… As servants of Christ Jesus, called to discipleship, we are to be separated from our old ways and the ways of the world in order that we might show a better way. A way of hope, leading to the ‘good news’ of salvation and the mercy of God which see lives changed by His amazing grace.

Remember today who you are in Christ and what He has called you to do.
