When the cares of my heart are many, your consolations cheer my soul.
Do you have a verse or verses you turn to when your heart is heavy? When trouble, or anxiety, or sadness comes and you feel slightly lost or adrift, it can be hard to find those passages of scripture that you need. Situations can sometimes make it difficult for your mind to focus and yet you want to hear God’s voice.
The word of God is rich with comfort and His promises can be a lifeline during difficult times. These are two that I hold on to:
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10
I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. John 16:33
Whatever the cares of your heart may be, believe that God our Father can and will provide comfort of equal measure that will sustain you and cheer your soul. He is the God of all hope; the giver of grace and provider of solace. Write His promises down and keep them in your bible. Let them be a reminder of His steadfast commitment to you at all times.
At the end of another week let us give thanks to the One who holds us in the palm of His hand: ‘Come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker! For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand’.
