Truth and Lies

Proverbs 30:5

Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.

In a world full of mistrust, fake news, slander, rumours and gossip, it is reassuring to have a firm and sure foundation on which to build our faith. God’s word is true and it is upon this truth that we find our security and our freedom.

The Lord Jesus proclaimed to the Jews that “he who sent me is true, and I declare to the world what I have heard from him”. Jesus not only spoke truth, He was truth. Those who chose to follow Him at the beginning may not have fully understood at first who he was but they recognised something within the words that he spoke. He assured them that “if you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth and the truth will set you free”. (John 8:31,32)

This tells me that if I remain rooted in God’s truth then truth will continuously be revealed to me and I will no longer be enslaved or constrained by the lies of the devil. I can and will live in the freedom of God’s redemption.

Satan will always try to convince you that you are not worthy of absolute forgiveness and he can be convincing, but everything he tells you is a lie. Jesus said that the devil “does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies”. (John 8:44)

Let the truth of God’s word be a shield to all the arrows of lies that the devil fires at you. Live in the freedom that was purchased for you at Calvary.
