Psalm 62:5-7
For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him. He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken. On God rests my salvation and my glory; my mighty rock, my refuge is God.
We wait for a variety of things throughout our life; we join queues and wait our turn. Some waits are tinged with anxiety, others with excitement and anticipation. The more we deem something worthy, the more value it has to us, the longer we are willing to wait.
Our eternal hope is in the God and Father of our salvation and redemption. He is the strength of our weakness. He is the comfort of our sorrow. He is the light of our darkness. We are nothing without Him but we are everything with Him and by His grace we have been granted access to the throne room of God.
Isaiah tells us ‘Therefore the LORD waits to be gracious to you, and therefore he exalts himself to show mercy to you’ (30:18). If the Lord is prepared to wait for us, shouldn’t we be prepared to wait for Him even more so?
Patience needs practice. We have to learn how to wait in the presence of God, bringing nothing but ourselves; no requests or petitions, just a humble and grateful heart. You will not come away empty handed, for blessed are all those who wait for Him.
