God’s Bounty

Psalm 65:9-13

You visit the earth and water it, you greatly enrich it; the river of God is full of water; you provide their grain, for so you have prepared it.

No-one disputes the fact that water is life. We can survive weeks without food but after 3 days without water our bodies will start to shut down. At least 60% of the adult body is made up of water and is essential for us to function properly. So to is the earth a living, breathing organism that needs water to sustain it and nourish it. The river of God flows continuously over His miraculous creation, providing for it, enriching it for our benefit and pleasure.

Softening it with showers, and blessing its growth, You crown the year with your bounty. The pastures of the wilderness overflow.

God blesses us with every fruit and vegetable that He has prepared to come forth from the ground which He sweetens with the rains. Through every calamity and natural disaster, the earth continues to provide a magnificent bounty; it overflows with His goodness.

The meadows clothe themselves with flocks, the valleys deck themselves with grain, they shout and sing together for joy.

Man may be set on destruction and we may feel dismay at the wicked and evil things around us in the world, but don’t let it cloud your vision. God is still the God of beautiful things, on the mountains and in the valleys, the fields and gardens. See their beauty and listen to the sound of their praise.
