Faithfulness, Fruit of the Spirit

A New Perspective

Psalm 26:3

For your steadfast love is before my eyes, and I walk in your faithfulness.

We didn’t always see the steadfast love of the Lord in all its fullness because we were blinded by sin. In John 9:39 Jesus says, “For judgement I came into this world, that those who do not see may see”. Earlier in the chapter we have the story of the man who had been blind from birth. The Lord made mud, put it on the man’s eyes and told him to go and wash in the pool of Siloam. The incident caused quite a stir and he had to tell his story over and over. My favourite line is in verse 11, “So I went and washed and received my sight”. Jesus cleanses us from our sin first and they opens our eyes to the wonders of all He has given. It reminds me of the Isaac Watts hymn:

At the cross, at the cross, Where I first saw the light, And the burden of my heart rolled away. It was there by faith I received my sight, And now I am happy all the day.

Do you remember the first time your eyes were opened to the love of Christ? It really is like scales falling off. Everything looks different as we see things from a new perspective; the perspective of God’s steadfast love for us and His faithfulness towards us. It is through this recognition of His faithfulness that gives us the strength to walk for Him as we walk in Him. I pray today that we allow the Holy Spirit to work within us to produce more faithfulness from us.
