1 Tim 6:12
Fight the good fight of faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
So hopefully you have all taken up your shield of faith this morning and are ready to continue fighting the good fight. With Christ as your Captain you can face each fight with confidence. He is the author and finisher of our faith. He was there from the beginning with you and He will be there until the end. He fought the ultimate battle and won, so during those times that you feel like giving up, “Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted” (Heb 12). He has been there before you and He knows what you are facing. Put your full trust in Him and He will give you the strength you need to overcome the enemy.
As I said in the introduction of this group, the Christian life is not an easy one, but we don’t just live in the valley and the trenches. There are days and weeks and months that are great! The times that come after a battle when the Lord takes us to the green pasture for rest and leads us to the river for refreshing. During those times of restoration and reflection we realise that the battles we fight are only temporary. That is why Paul urges Timothy to ‘take hold of the eternal life to which you were called’. Don’t let what is temporal weigh you down. Our hope lies in what is yet to come. My hope is that when my battles here come to an end, I can say with Paul, ‘I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
